The History of CQC

1957 The Clasen brothers, newly immigrated from Germany, opened a European bakery in Madison, Wisconsin. Clasen bakery products were marketed on a small scale to friends and local Madison neighbors.
1966 The bakery creations had gained so much popularity that the business expanded and the Clasen Candy Company was established.
1970 The Clasen brothers invested in confectionery equipment to produce and market their own confectioner’s coating. This investment laid the foundation to grow the business in two different directions; the Retail Baking market and the Confectionery Ingredients market. As the confectionery ingredients market grew, the company name was changed to Clasen Quality Coatings, Inc. to reflect the company’s new focus.
1998 Ralph Clasen sold the company to a private entrepreneur with the intent of maintaining the philosophy and tradition that made Clasen successful. Since this transfer of ownership, CQC has transitioned from a small, regional compound coating manufacturer to a major supplier of both standard and customized formulations and value-added, confectionery ingredients across North America.
2007 Commercial production began at CQC’s newest manufacturing facility located in Watertown, Wisconsin. Built from the ground up, this building offered CQC additional capacity and product capabilities on world-class equipment, until its running capacity was exceeded in 2009.
2008 CQC opened its new Corporate Office building and the CQC Innovation Center. This midpoint between our two production facilities connects all of our locations and allows us to better serve our valued customers. Recently, this facility was upgraded with a gourmet Applications Kitchen where customers can come to experiment with various products and formulations.
2009 September 2009 marked another milestone in the company’s history, as the first “Standard of Identity” chocolate rolled into production. Our pure chocolate – which will be available in milk, dark and white bases – represents CQC’s ongoing commitment to meeting our customers’ confectionery needs.
